FINISHED SIZE :
Width : 5 ½ inch (14 cm) / Height : 4 ½ inch (12 cm) / Depth: 1 ¼ inch (3 cm)
WHAT YOU NEED :
FABRICS
- 1 Fat Quarter of patterned fabric for the exterior
- 1 Fat Quarter of quilting fabric for the interior
OTHER SUPPLIES
- 1 Fat Quarter of fusible mid-weight interfacing
- 1 tube of permanent glue/ adhesive ( such as UHU, E6000, Gutermann HT2, etc)
- all purpose sewing thread
TOOLS
- Sewing machine
- Iron and iron board
- Scissors
- Pins
- Needle and thread
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Purse crimper or a pair of pliers
- Fabric pen and uni-ball pen
CUTTING PIECES
- Trace pattern A on patterned fabric for the exterior top panel, cut 2 pieces for the front and back
- Trace pattern A on fabric for interior, cut 2 pieces for the front and back
- Trace pattern B on interfacing, cut 2 pieces for the front and back, mark the hinge marks (with uni-ball pen) on one of the interfacing piece
FUSING
Fuse the interfacing to the wrong side of assembled exterior fabric.
Press down the iron with slight pressure, lift and glide till all fabric is fused.
SEWING THE EXTERIOR
- Pin the two exterior pieces with right sides together,
- sew along the edge of the fleece, starting from one side of the hinge mark, around the side and bottom , ends at the other side of the hinge mark, backtacking at both ends. Now you will find that the top edges are open.
- Fold each corner to create a triangle, make sure the side seam matches the bottom seam, draw a 1 ½ ” line perpendicular to the side seam, trim to 1/4” or hand stitch the peak of the gusset to the bottom of the bag
SEWING THE INTERIOR
- Pin the two interior pieces with right sides together,
- Centered pattern B on one of the interior piece, transfer the pattern from one hinge marking and working around to the other, then sew the 2 interior pieces together.
- Fold the corners to create gussets (same as with the exterior pieces)
- Turn the interior right side out.
SEWING UP THE EXTERIOR & INTERIOR
- Place the interior inside the exterior and both of their right sides are facing together, line up the edges and pin together
- Sew around the top of the of bag , leaving 3” unstitched.
- Pull the exterior out through the 3” unstitched hole on the top, and the bag is now right side out.
- Topstitch around the top opening 1/8” from the edge.
GLUING
- Spread a thin line of the glue along the channel from one hinge to another.
- Allow the glue/adhesive to dry for a while
- Starting with one side of the frame by the hinge, push the fabric edge into the channel of the frame, use the flat-head screwdriver to work the way around.
- Repeat same steps for the other side of the frame channel.
- Allow for 15 minutes for the glue to dry thoroughly.
